For the protection and sustainability of mangrove forests

The importance of cooperation with the Pokmaswas Teluk Sumberkima organisation

In 2023, we entered into an important cooperation with the organisation Pokmaswas Teluk Sumberkima, which is not only dedicated to the reforestation of coral reefs, but also focuses on the cultivation of mangrove forests. This scientific article highlights the relevance of this co-operation and explains the essential importance of coastal mangrove forests. Mangrove forests act as a protective barrier against strong storms and high waves, provide habitat for a variety of animals both below and above the water surface and contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere.
The cooperation with Pokmaswas Teluk Sumberkima marks a milestone in our commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. In this context, we are focussing in particular on the importance of mangrove forests, the protection and restoration of which is crucial for the ecological balance of coastal regions.

Why are mangrove forests important?

1. protection from storms and waves:
Mangrove forests serve as a natural barrier that protects coastlines from the effects of strong storms and high waves. The dense root systems of mangrove trees stabilise the soil and reduce erosion, helping to protect coastal infrastructure.

2. diverse ecosystem:
These unique ecosystems provide a habitat for a wide range of plants and animals. Below the water surface, numerous marine species find shelter and food, while birds, reptiles and mammals use the dense mangrove forests above the water as a habitat. The biodiversity in mangrove forests contributes to the stability and resilience of these ecosystems.

3. CO2 sequestration:
Another key contribution of mangrove forests to environmental protection is their ability to absorb and bind large amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere. The photosynthesis of mangrove trees enables the conversion of CO2 into organic compounds, thereby acting as carbon sinks. The protection and restoration of mangrove forests is therefore of global importance in the fight against climate change.

The cooperation with Pokmaswa's Teluk Sumberkima represents an important step towards the protection and sustainable development of mangrove forests. By reforesting and maintaining these ecologically valuable areas, we are not only helping to protect coastal habitats, but also actively contributing to global CO2 reduction. These joint efforts are critical to ensuring environmental resilience and preserving the diverse life forms that depend on mangrove forests.
